A Maasai Homestead (enkang popularly known as the Manyattas) is made from cow dung and wooden sticks from the leleshwa plant. Women are the ones responsible for putting up these magnificent homes. However, a homestead contains several Maasai houses which are surrounded by a fence made also by branches of the leleshwa plant where the herds of goats and cows are confined in during the night hours. There are other Manyattas made far away in the wilderness during their Morans as they prepare their headset, the motonyik, before they return home.

Day 2: Maasai Mara Game Reserve – Kisumu
Very early in the morning before sunrise, depart for a hot air balloon game viewing flight above the spectacular Maasai Mara. The balloon flight takes approximately one hour after which landing is followed by a full champagne type breakfast prepared for you in the bush. After breakfast, you will receive a balloon certificate, after which you will be driven back to your lodge with a game viewing drive en route. You will have lunch served at your lodge, and afterwards be transferred to the airstrip for transfer to Kisumu, arriving in the evening.

Hot Air Balloon Game Viewing Flight

You will head to the launch site where you will meet your pilot who will brief you as you watch the inflation of your balloon. You will be ready to take off before dawn and fly over the game filled plains and river Rine forest watching out for animals and plains game. You will be rising as the sun rises and float to whichever direction the winds of the morning take you. The experienced pilot at the wheel will easily control the altitude of your balloon sometimes flying at treetop level and sometimes lower, each time offering a unique perspective and a great photographic opportunity of the wildlife below. At that height, you will be able to have a breath-taking view of the pristine wilderness from a bird’s eye view. From time to time, the pilot must pump in more heat into the balloon to keep it afloat.
