3 Days / 2 Nights Maasai Mara Wildlife Lodge Safari from Kisumu city

Highlights: This is a 3 days safari starting from Kisumu city to Maasai Mara, ending with a drop off in Nairobi. This safari takes you from Kisumu to Maasai Mara through the Kericho tea zones into Narok. This is a time for the Wildlife Annual Migration from the Serengeti into the Maasai Mara. While at Maasai Mara, you may be able to see plenty of wildlife varying from Kenya's Big five, the lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and the cheetah among a host of other different animal species. You will travel in a tour minivan and stay in a lodge/tented camp while on this safari on full board basis.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Kisumu City - Maasai Mara National Reserve

On this day in the morning at 7:00 am in Kisumu city, you will be met by our tour manager who will brief you on your safari before departing for Maasai Mara through Kericho, Sotik, Mulot and into Maasai Mara. You will arrive in time for lunch. After lunch, enjoy your first afternoon half day game viewing drive till dusk.

 Maasai Mara is the New 7th Wonder of the world and the 4th preferred tourist destination in the whole world. In November 2006 the Masai Mara was named as the New 7th wonder of the world because of what experts termed as "the uniqueness of the area and the preservation it provides to so many species living in harmony". It is understandable because this annual migration is the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth.

 The Masai people are so significant due to their culture. Starting from their dress code, the color red is so significant in that they scare away wild animals as they co-exist with them. They believe that God, Enkai, gave them cattle, therefore they believe that all the cattle belongs to them. That's the reason why they have been known due to their cattle rustling. Although the Maasai are known for their nomadic life and cattle keeping, they is a group of agricultural Maasai, known as IL Loikop, are look down upon by the cattle keeping group, the Wakwavi since they believe they are the true Maasais created to keep cattle.

Day 2: Maasai Mara (full day)

After breakfast, you will spend a full day’s game viewing, which includes going around the Maasai Mara where the immigration of wildebeests and zebras crossing takes place annually from Serengeti, popularly known as the Great Annual Migration. You will then stop for an early picnic lunch and proceed with the drive till dusk.

OR Optional in the morning between 5.00am and 7.00am go for Balloon Flight;

Maasai Mara Balloon Flight: Take the opportunity to fly over the Mara in a Hot air Balloon provided at an extra cost. The balloon package includes a champagne breakfast in the wild! If you can spare the money, viewing abundant game afloat a balloon is an unforgettable experience.

Day 3: Maasai Mara – Nairobi

After breakfast, depart for through the middle of the park to the Sekenana/Talek Gate. You will drive through to Narok town. You stop for hot lunch at the Narok seasons Hotel then proceed to Nairobi where upon arrival you will be drop at your preferred location in Nairobi.

Day 2: Maasai Mara Game Reserve – Kisumu
Very early in the morning before sunrise, depart for a hot air balloon game viewing flight above the spectacular Maasai Mara. The balloon flight takes approximately one hour after which landing is followed by a full champagne type breakfast prepared for you in the bush. After breakfast, you will receive a balloon certificate, after which you will be driven back to your lodge with a game viewing drive en route. You will have lunch served at your lodge, and afterwards be transferred to the airstrip for transfer to Kisumu, arriving in the evening.

Hot Air Balloon Game Viewing Flight

You will head to the launch site where you will meet your pilot who will brief you as you watch the inflation of your balloon. You will be ready to take off before dawn and fly over the game filled plains and river Rine forest watching out for animals and plains game. You will be rising as the sun rises and float to whichever direction the winds of the morning take you. The experienced pilot at the wheel will easily control the altitude of your balloon sometimes flying at treetop level and sometimes lower, each time offering a unique perspective and a great photographic opportunity of the wildlife below. At that height, you will be able to have a breath-taking view of the pristine wilderness from a bird’s eye view. From time to time, the pilot must pump in more heat into the balloon to keep it afloat.

Backpackers have been catered for in the Maasai Mara with basic facilities available in most sectors of the Mara and accommodation is in tented camps in designated camping areas maned by Maasai Morans for security. For those who do not have tents these are either supplied by our offices or are obtained directly in the Maasai Mara for extra payment. For those with more to spend one can be lodged in a stand-in tent with a bed and en suite facilities. This is not upmarket accommodation but basic canvas tents with beds.

Day 1: Hell's Gate National Park – Loita Hills
After breakfast you will drive to the Hemmingways Savannah grasslands arriving at your camp within the fertile Loita Hills in Narok. Upon arrival you will check in to your camp and have lunch before departing for a cycling safari within the hills. Later in the afternoon you will proceed for an evening walk across the plains, which have breath-taking scenery.

Day 2: Loita Hills
After breakfast you will enjoy a morning ride to Naikera Town for a tour of the area, before returning to your camp for lunch. You will then have the afternoon at leisure, which will be spent on a cultural visit to the nearby Maasai villages. You will spend some time interacting with the hospitable Maasai tribesmen; learn about their culture as you watch the sun set on the horizon. In the evening you will be transferred back to your camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Loita Hills – Maasai Mara Game Reserve
After breakfast, check out of your camp and depart the Loita Hills and cycle and ride further towards the famous Maasai Mara National Reserve. Enjoying the numerous varieties of flora and fauna on the way, you will arrive at your camp in time for lunch. In the afternoon, you will set out for cycling in the surrounding valleys and hills where game can often be seen. In the evening you will be transferred back to your camp for dinner and overnight. Day 4: Maasai Mara Game Reserve
After breakfast you will enjoy a full day game drive within the reserve. There are some parts within the park where cycling is not allowed, so most of the time you will be enjoying game drives while in your vehicle. You will have picnic lunch at the Hippo point picnic site which is a great picnic spot for campers and visitors of the Reserve. You will have an opportunity to spot the big five, plenty of plains game as well as numerous bird species. If you visit between July and October, you will also witness the annual wildebeest migration. In the evening you will be transferred back to your camp for dinner and overnight. Day 5: Maasai Mara Game Reserve
After breakfast you will depart for a morning ride on the plains (outside the park) then return for lunch at your camp. Day 6: Maasai Mara Game Reserve – Nairobi
After breakfast, you will check out of your camp and cycle to Narok where you will stop for packed lunch before proceeding to Nairobi. Upon arrival at Nairobi, you will be transferred to a hotel where you can shower and freshen up before being transferred to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to catch your outbound flight to your next destination.
